The future is green. But it depends on us.

THE FUTURE IS GREEN.
BUT IT DEPENDS ON US.

Dear L&T Family,

As we celebrate World Environment Day, I am reminded of the critical role each one of us plays in safeguarding our planet. The world is undergoing massive changes – from ecosystem shifts to energy transitions – and it is imperative that we, as responsible individuals, adapt and lead the way.

This year’s theme for the World Environment Day focuses on three key areas including land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.

At L&T Group, our commitment to sustainability isn’t just a corporate initiative; it is instead a way of life. From reducing our carbon footprint to conserving water, we continue to integrate sustainable practices into our business operations.

Our focus on green businesses continues to increase, and we have invested in the immense potential of green energy. Our Green Energy Council provides niche expertise and guidance on technology trends, collaboration opportunities, and new working models for green businesses.

I am happy to share that by now we have:

  • Constructed 5.8 GW capacity of solar power infrastructure globally and around 10 GW capacity of projects are under execution
  • Commissioned nuclear power plants of total installed capacity of 6.2 GW and hydel power plants having total installed capacity of 3.5 GW
  • Built around 16 IGBC/LEED/GRIHA certified Green Buildings
  • Commissioned the first indigenously manufactured Hydrogen Electrolyser at our Hazira facility

The ever-growing focus on renewables has also given us significant yields: 49% of L&T’s standalone revenue in FY24 came from Green businesses.

With our sustainability initiatives, we have:

  • Planted a whopping 4 million saplings across India and overseas
  • Increased the use of recycled & eco-friendly materials by 31% and augmented renewable energy consumption by 20%
  • Commissioned around 6,170 MLD water treatment plants and 875 MLD wastewater treatment plants

As a cumulative outcome of these initiatives, we were able to avert emissions of 1,53,000 tCO2e.

While the organization continues to move forward with a focus on sustainable growth, it is important to recognize this responsibility at an individual level too. Simple actions like stopping the use of plastic bags, avoiding disposable water bottles, using power judiciously, etc. can have tremendous energy savings. Would urge you to consider some of these.

We must also realize that adopting sustainable practices has been made mandatory by regulatory bodies. SEBI has further mandated reasonable assurance on 9 key ESG parameters for the top 150 listed companies including L&T. Let us collaborate across teams, share best practices, and inspire one another to deliver better on these expectations.

Finally, let us understand that our legacy extends beyond business metrics. It’s about leaving a lasting impact. As we construct bridges, power plants, and smart cities, let us also build a legacy of environmental stewardship. Let’s plant trees, conserve resources, and educate our communities about sustainable practices.

Being mindful of our choices – both at work and beyond – will ensure that we build a future where progress and preservation coexist harmoniously.

Happy World Environment Day!

With Green Greetings!
