CLIENT TRUST IS LIKE GOLD DUST.
EARN AND PRESERVE IT AT ALL COSTS.
S. N. SUBRAHMANYAN
Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, L&T
Dear Colleagues,
Even as we continue executing projects, winning new mega ones, and chasing our Lakshya goals, we cannot even for a second lose sight of the fact that we are in business because of our clients. It must remain our constant focus and endeavor to be on their right side by engaging with them, understanding their spoken and unspoken requirements well and delivering to delight them. Today, we are operating in an environment of increased competition and rampant commoditization and, in this scenario, if there is one thing that can give us an edge to keep us ahead of the pack, it is the goodwill and support of our clients. Client support and loyalty are like gold dust that we should earn and preserve at all costs. ‘Client First’ should remain our mantra for continued success.
In this context, it is heartening to note that the various projects that won the Timely Delivery, Quality and Safety Awards 2022 have found several ways to delight their respective clients by meeting stringent deadlines, overcoming tough odds, finding innovative ways to resolve issues, maintaining progress and, at the end, completing their projects profitably. While the various business and project leaders have contributed handsomely to this success, we celebrate the young ‘Champions’ of these projects in this issue of ECC News. They have wonderfully risen to the occasion and delivered. We acknowledge and appreciate their energy, dedication, drive, and passion to make us the organization we are. All of you have made L&T, your projects and yourselves proud. We need more Champions like you to inspire and propel us as we seek to achieve greater glory going forward.
A great place to work
Against such a background, the fact that L&T has been certified as a Great Place to Work is both relevant and gratifying. The recognition confirms what we are and reflects a triumph of our strong people orientation, our robust people practices and, most relevantly, the strong emotional bond that we all share with the organization. There is no denying that all of you are the reason why we can execute the largest, longest, tallest, smartest, and most complex of projects; all of you are what makes us Great! As we forge ahead, we seek the same sustained commitment from all of you to help us remain a great place to work.
The Great Place to Work Survey has thrown up several interesting insights about our people and organization. While there is certainly, reason to celebrate our strengths that it highlights, we also need to introspect and dwell upon some areas of concern that it has revealed. Our HR fraternity must take these findings positively as valuable inputs when evolving and finalizing our new people-oriented programmes to make us stronger and better equipped to face the future.
We need more champions to lead the way
Considering the width and depth of our operations, we seek more of you to come forward to lead from the front. We need bold, tenacious, strong people to shoulder greater responsibility and help take our organization forward. As we execute projects that are extremely demanding in terms of size, scale, and complexity and with more of the same on the horizon, the opportunities are aplenty; it just needs the right kind of people with the right kind of orientation to take them and fly. Only then can we be an organization of winners.
The new financial year beckons with many opportunities and with an enabling environment internally, there is nothing to stop you from reaching for the stars. If we face the future together, success is a given.
All the best!
A HISTORIC SIGNING FOR INDIA’S LARGEST EPC MANDATE TILL DATE
November 26th 2020 was a red letter day both for the Indian infrastructure sector and for us as the contract for the largest EPC order awarded in the country till date was signed between L&T and the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited. As our CEO & Managing Director, Mr S N Subrahmanyan described, “this order reflects an inflection point in the revival of India’s infrastructure sector and the first sure shot indication that our economy is up and running.” For L&T, it represents a great opportunity to make up for lost ground due to the pandemic and reaffirm our status as India’s foremost construction organization.
The mandate is for the design and construction of 237 km of viaduct between Vapi and Vadodara in Gujarat, four stations, a depot at Surat, 14 river, 6 railway & 42 road crossings and a 350 M long mountain tunnel.
“This project will give a huge thrust to economic and social development,” declared Whole Time Director & Senior Executive Vice
President (Civil Infrastructure), S V Desai, for whom and his team, the mandate is not only a huge win but an even bigger responsibility. “The project will generate employment for professionals like engineers, technicians, designers, architects and create livelihoods for skilled and semi-skilled workforce and construction workers. It will boost demand for construction material and machinery and even ancillary industries like hospitality, entertainment, health, tourism, real estate & housing and education will flourish during the construction phase,” he elaborated.
