‘Manthan’ wins Excellence in Change Management Award
Aligned with the Lakshya 2026 roadmap, B&F IC has prioritized high-impact projects and expansions into new regions and sectors. “‘Manthan’ is a comprehensive succession planning, career planning, and talent review process aimed at nurturing internal leadership and talent growth,” explains T Shivaram, Head – HR, B&F IC.
Regional Talent Councils (RTC) composed of Operation Heads, CPMs, TFL Heads, HRBPs, and functional heads within the IC meticulously review top talents within their respective regions, projects, and departments. Individual talents are discussed and identified to create a diverse talent pipeline comprising 7% of the total workforce across critical roles and functions. “The talent identification conversations cover individuals’ readiness for potential roles, mobility, retention risks, strengths, areas of development, succession, and development plans,” Shivaram adds.
At the next level, the IC Talent Council, comprising the IC Head, SBG Heads, BU Heads, SBG Operation Heads, IC HR Head, and SBG HR Heads, further calibrate identified talent, refining them with insights on job rotations, career shifts, and stretched assignments.
“Subsequently, feedback from the Development Centre helps these top talents to understand their career goals, strengths, and areas for improvement,” elaborates Bhawna Verma, Senior Manager – HR, B&F IC, “and by using a data-driven approach, we nominate individuals for L&T’s 7-step leadership pipeline programme and flagship training & capability-building programmes.” Potential project managers undergo a tailored capability programme too, ‘Renaissance’.
In addition, senior key talents receive personalized coaching and mentoring from the IC Head, SBG Heads, BU Heads, and Functional Heads, while the Operation & Resource team assigns new and stretch assignments to these individuals to enhance their skills and experiences. Young top talents also get the opportunity to interact with business leaders during visits to various sites and cluster offices.
“Our top talent retention rate and bench strength have improved thanks to ‘Manthan’,” remarks Shivaram. “Building on this, and guided by council feedback, we have introduced career conversations for identified talents with their managers this year, for a comprehensive approach to talent development, closely aligned with organizational objectives, leveraging technology by uploading the data to the MyTime talent review portal.”
