L&T participates in the Business World People CEO CHRO Conclave

The 3rd edition of the Business World People CEO CHRO Conclave was held on 30 September 2023 in Delhi, themed ‘Power of Human Capital – HR’s Role in National Development’, and S. Ramkumar, Executive Vice President & Head – Railways SBG, represented L&T as one of the speakers.

The event hosted several industry visionaries who have made significant contributions in the areas of human resources and contributed towards India’s national growth. The topics ranged from innovation, the importance of ethical leadership to foster a value-driven workforce, the power of human capital, the importance of collaboration between HRs and educational institutions, the value of cultural alignment within an organization, and the impact of a rapidly evolving landscape of AI and HR process automation that are reshaping working styles & formats.

Showcasing L&T’s longstanding people policies, Ramkumar shed light on L&T’s human touch pre- and post-COVID and the numerous welfare measures to engage the workforce, L&T’s sustainability initiatives, initiatives on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I), employee wellbeing, and mental health. He emphasized about women leadership and L&T’s initiatives to promote women power.

En nostalgisk* down memory lane!

The Tata Bhira and Bhivpuri Hydroelectric Project, located near Pune in the Western Ghats, was successfully executed in the 1990s and bore many firsts for L&T in tunnelling and a foray into the ‘hydro’ business. For several of the project team members, it was their first work site in L&T.

An idea for a team reunion that sprouted in 2019, but delayed due to the pandemic, fructified on September 2nd, with a gettogether of 35+ ex-employees along with families for dinner followed by a project site visit the next day.

*A Norwegian term. Incidentally, Norway produces 91% of its total power from hydroelectric renewable energy.

The plinth for the site camp family and bachelors’ quarters still exists at the location, and showing it to their kids 30 years later was a nostalgic moment for the veterans!
